You might not know it but the Irish #beef is regarded among the best in the world by foodies. And fortunately, the Irish beef farmers will be able to export it again to the United States after 16 years of an import ban of all European beef following the BSE crisis. Ireland is to date the only EU member state permitted to export beef to the US.
The result of two years of hard work put in by Bord Bía, the Irish food marketing board, and the Ministry for Agriculture headed by Simon Coveney culminated in a series of launches on 8th and 9th February 2015 in different cities in the US. Among the high profile promotional events was a launch for high-end trade buyers and US food publications in New York featuring a range of international chefs who will endorse the premium quality of Irish beef.
We are very happy to report that our Burren Smoked Irish Organic Salmon was served at this historical launch. The event at the New York Irish Consulate on Monday morning followed the official launch in Michelin-starred restaurant Daniel’s on Sunday evening. Bord Bia assembled some of New York’s top chefs and restaurateurs for the event, emphasizing the premium brand they are developing for Irish beef.
The lifting of the beef import ban has positive consequences not only for Irish beef farmers, but also for other producers of food who will benefit from opening up of new routes to the US market.
