Birgitta and the Slow Food team are currently very busy co-organising the 10th Burren Slow Food Festival which is bursting at the seams with tastings, talks, cookery demos, a picnic on the sea, dinners, a Farmer's Market and much more.
This year, the "Surf & Turf" themed Burren Slow Food Festival will take place again in May, albeit one weekend later than usual, so take down the dates: 27th to 29th May.
Strictly speaking, it is starting a few days before that with a charity cycle organised by Shane Smith from YesChef magazine. Dozens of chefs and members of the catering trade, including Birgitta Hedin Curtin from the Burren Smokehouse, will be cycling from Lisdoonvarna to Maam Cross in Connemara and back again, over the course of three days. At the end of this 300k tour, there will be a homecoming dinner and dance to which everybody - yes, you as well! - is invited.
The first highlight of the festival weekend itself will be a Champagne Picnic under the Cliffs of Moher which will take place on the Friday night. Onboard, you will enjoy a glass of champagne, the view from the boat onto the majestic Cliffs of Moher, and the delicious seafood picnic.
Of course, the traditional "Surf & Turf" Burren Slow Food Banquet will be part of the features again, as will be cookery demos by for example JP McMahon from the Michelin-star adorned Anair Restaurant in Galway.
One more highlight begs to be mentioned here - the Oyster and Wine & Stout pairing event presented by food and wine expert Leslie Williams. When booking a ticket, you will get a plate with oysters from different locations, and the wine and Burren Brewery Stout to go with it.
There are too many events taking place to mention them all here, but have a look at the brandnew Slow Food website - you will need no excuse to come to the Burren anymore! There are plenty of them in that one weekend already.
