Immerse yourself in the Salmon Experience!
Call into the Burren Smokehouse Tasting Room (visitor centre with retail space) located in Lisdoonvarna just off the Wild Atlantic Way and a short drive from the Cliffs of Moher.
Discover the mystery of salmon smoking and the secret of how smoked salmon is handcrafted (a 7 minute video in English, French, German, Italian, Swedish and Spanish).
You can also follow the Curtin Family through history and learn about the milestones and ethics of the Burren Smokehouse on our storyboards.
Enjoy mosaics that are telling the story of the "Salmon of Knowledge". Marvel at the nostalgic atmosphere in the Tasting Room and smell the oak smoke as soon as you come through the door. Feel the rumble of the production facilities under your feet as you explore the retired kiln and smokebox that is on display.
The Burren Smokehouse team is very passionate about the quality of our products and about our customer service. You can place an order on site and have the salmon delivered to your home.
Follow in the footsteps of royalty!
In May 2019, the honour of a Swedish Royal visit was bestowed upon us. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden came to the Burren Smokehouse to learn about artisan food production in the Burren, and to taste our Burren Smoked Irish Organic Salmon.
Before this highlight, there were others. Queen Elizabeth II and almost 180 guests enjoyed our Smoked Wild Irish Salmon as a starter during the historic State Dinner in Dublin Castle in May of 2011, and Prince Charles received a side of our Burren Smoked Irish Wild Salmon when he visited the Burren for the first time ever in spring of 2015.
Follow Birgitta, the owner-manager of the Burren Smokehouse, through the visitor centre / Tasting Room to see the new layout post-Covid, and to learn what safety measure we have implemented:
