Call into the Burren Smokehouse Visitor Centre located in Lisdoonvarna just off the Wild Atlantic Way and a short drive from the Cliffs of Moher, and sample the silky, smoky texture of the Burren Smoked Irish Organic Salmon. Discover the mystery of salmon smoking and the secret of how smoked salmon is handcrafted (a 7 minute video in English, French, German, Italian, Swedish and Spanish). Enjoy mosaics that are telling the story of the "Salmon of Knowledge".
Marvel at the nostalgic atmosphere in their visitor centre and smell the oak smoke as soon as you come through the door. Feel the rumble of the production facilities under your feet as you explore the retired kiln and smokebox that is on display.
Follow in the footsteps of royalty!
In May 2019, the honour of a Swedish Royal visit was bestowed upon us. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden came to the Burren Smokehouse to learn about artisan food production in the Burren, and to taste our Burren Smoked Irish Organic Salmon.
Before this highlight, there were others. Queen Elizabeth II and almost 180 guests enjoyed our Smoked Irish Organic Salmon as a starter during the historic State Dinner in Dublin Castle in May of 2011, and Prince Charles received a side of our Burren Smoked Irish Wild Salmon when he visited the Burren for the first time ever in spring of 2015.
During the summer months, we give away a side of salmon each month to those among our visitors who wish to take part in our draw in the visitor centre.
