Here a selection of articles and videos which have featured the Burren Smokehouse over the years.

The Irish Echo

Cookbook author Margaret M. Johnson from the US published a wonderful homage to the Burren Smokehouse on The Irish Echo under the headline "Best of the Burren".  She has a great affinity to - and knowledge of - Ireland and especially County Clare where she has travelled to many times.

Quote: "... but my personal favorite, and one that no foodie should miss, is the Burren Smokehouse, located in the heart of Lisdoonvarna [...]".

Our Smoked Salmon promoted at Milwaukee Irish Fest 2023

Just before the Milwaukee Irish Fest 2023 opened its gates, Chef Tom Flavin talked to American TV station Fox6 about his cookery demonstrations at the Irish Fest 2023 for which he used our Burren Smoked Irish Organic Salmon. As a member of Eurotoques Ireland and a former Fáilte Ireland Food Champion promoting local food and tourism along the Wild Atlantic Way, he is a passionate ambassador for Irish food. We are very grateful to Tom for including us in his cookery demos and for giving us a mention on this TV show!

On his culinary discovery journey around Ireland John Torode arrived in Lisdoonvarna, and that part was televised on Irish TV station RTE2 on 28th July 2023. He learnt about the smoking process at the Burren Smokehouse and got to try the Roadside Tavern's signature dish.

You might be able to watch the episode about the Burren, the Burren Smokehouse and other artisan food producers in our area on the RTE Player.

Following the judges' decision to announce the Burren the winner, and under the headline "What makes the Burren the best place to holiday in Ireland 2022?", Róisín Ingle wrote a beautiful article letting visitors to and residents of the Burren share their impressions and their reasons for coming to the Burren.

She also met members of the Burren Ecotourism Network like Peter and Birgitta Curtin, and visited other businesses like Linnane's Lobster Bar, Monks in Ballyvaughan, the Burren Perfumery to name just a few.

A limelight is shone on the heroines of the Irish Food and Drink industry covering a very wide variety of different professions, from chefs and food producers to sommeliers and whiskey distillers.

El Pais - "The Burren, pure natural fascination”

The second largest Spanish newspaper El País published a long article in their travel section about the Burren and members of the Burren Ecotourism Network.

In a very poetic way, it highlights many of the small businesses who work with nature and are being influenced by their beautiful surroundings.

There is an undeniable penchant for food and poetry apparent which makes this article quite unique. Oysters, ice cream and our Burren smoked salmon get a good mention, as well as some historical (Caherconnell ring fort) and geological sites like the Cliffs of Moher and the Aillwee Caves.

Neven Maguire's Irish Seafood Trail

Chef Neven Maguire, famous Irish chef and TV celebrity, showcased the Burren Smokehouse when filming an episode of "Neven Maguire's Irish Seafood Trails'” which was broadcast in February 2021 on the Irish TV channel RTÉ One.

He spent a good bit of time here at the Burren Smokehouse where he was given the VIP treatment and let into the smoking area which normally is off limits for the public. In the family-owned pub next door, the Roadside Tavern, Birgitta organised a Smoked Salmon and Burren Brewery craft beer pairing.

We are very grateful to Bord Bia - Irish Food Board who made this programme possible, and who are tirelessly promoting small Irish food and drink producers. We also want to thank Neven for his genuine interest and for being an equally tireless Irish food hero!

Oyyster - “Born to be Wild"

German food journalist and editor in charge Rainer Schillings (99 pages publishing house) came to Ireland to not only learn about seafood and smoked salmon, but also about certain aspects of Irish culture in general. He meant to stay for an hour at the most, but was so enthusiastic about what we are doing here, and by what Birgitta, the owner-manager of the Burren Smokehouse, had to say about the challenges and joys of working in the food industry that he ended up staying for three hours.

The pictures in the article are heavily featuring the Burren Smokehouse, and Mr Schillings is expertly explaining the situation with the wild and (organically) farmed salmon.

The magazine is aimed at professionals from the catering world and foodie-orientated lay people.
