Below please find different areas of interest when you are planning your visit. This section will cover how to get to the Burren Smokehouse and what to expect when arriving.

Location of the Burren Smokehouse

We are located off the Wild Atlantic Way, in Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare V95 HD70, Ireland.

Different ways of getting to Lisdoonvarna and the Burren Smokehouse

Arrive by car:

The Burren Smokehouse is situated off the N67 in Lisdoonvarna. It is a 15-minute drive from the Cliffs of Moher, 20 minutes from Ballyvaughan (via N67), 15 minutes from Ennistymon and 40 minutes from Ennis. From Galway, the drive via the N67 takes about 1 h 45 min.
You can park in our free car park with a tarmac surface and walk 50 metres on a footpath to the Burren Smokehouse Visitor Centre. There is no height restriction barrier. The car park can accommodate coaches.

Arrive by public transport:

(information correct as per February 2026 – please check when planning your trip)
There is a regular bus service from Ennis and from Galway stopping at the crossroads in the centre of Lisdoonvarna, about 50 metres from the Roadside Tavern and 200 metres from the Burren Smokehouse. The bus routes are the 350 (direct route) and the 351 (takes the coast road via Fanore). From Shannon Airport, you can take a bus to Ennis and then another to Lisdoonvarna.

Getting around while you are in the Burren & Cliffs of Moher Geopark area:

Running from May to August, the Burren Explorer shuttle bus will bring tourists and locals alike around on different routes – for free! Also included is free admission to the Cliffs of Moher Experience if you arrive by the shuttle bus. See more information on our Explore the Burren & Cliffs of Moher for free page!
Please note that to access the buses, a few steps have to be negotiated.

Arrive by air:

Shannon Airport is the closest airport. It is located in southern Co. Clare and has car rental and public transport by bus (route 330 servicing the airport) available.
Other airports are Dublin, Cork, Farranfore (Kerry) Airport and Ireland West (Knock) Airport.

Parking and access to the Visitor Centre

There is a step-free route with a firm surface from the car park to the main entrance or an alternative step-free entrance.

You can park in our free tarmacked car park just off the N67 west of the town centre. You will reach the Burren Smokehouse Visitor Centre via a footpath. Distance: circa 50 metres.
There is no height restriction barrier to the car park.

The car park can accommodate coaches.

The access to the main Visitor Centre and the interactive “Taste the Atlantic – Salmon Experience” are freely accessible via ramps. The three steps down from the footpath to the main entrance can be avoided by using the ramp. There are no thresholds in the Visitor Centre nor the “Taste the Atlantic – Salmon Experience”.

Accessibility of the main visitor centre and products

Throughout the Visitor Centre and the “Taste the Atlantic – Salmon Experience”, everything is within easy reach. For access to the products in the fridge unit, our staff members will be very happy to assist you, and advise you on the different products.

In the Visitor Centre, we offer an audio-visual covering our smoking process. The video is 7 minutes long. It is available in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian, and with or without subtitles.

Accessibility of "Taste the Atlantic - Salmon Experience"

In the “Taste the Atlantic – Salmon Experience”, we show an audio-visual shadow play that lasts about 4 minutes. Chairs are available for the duration. We offer maritime equipment like life vests etc for your personal photo shoot. Vintage TV sets show reels. In another section, there are different looped videos, water columns with air bubbles and a low wheelchair-friendly display table with quizzes and jigsaw puzzles. We have printed translations of all the wall panels and the shadow play available in German, French and Italian.

Wheelchair accessible toilet in public areas

A designated wheelchair-accessible toilet is available in the Visitor Centre just to the left of the main entrance. It is threshold- and step-free into it. There are handrails and a drop-down grab rail on one side. The handwash basin is lower to allow access.

Please note that there is no toilet in the “Taste the Atlantic – Salmon Experience”.
